Aly Hansen is a New York wedding photographer by way of Richmond, Virginia primarily working with vintage film mediums. Her photo work evokes a natural sense of presence and she boasts her ability to catch you when the moment is just right. Her work is just as much about the people who’ve gathered to celebrate you as it is the two people who brought everyone under the same roof. Rejecting shot lists, she doesn’t need one. And neither do you. All she asks for is space to read the room, and that you give yourselves permission to experience your wedding day without pressure to perform for a camera. Her photographs are playful, nuanced, and true to the moments that unfold in front of her. While her approach is as hands off as possible, she will step in and yell at your aunt during family photos if you need her to. It happens.
At home she loves being with her four cats, taking much too long baths, and sitting on her porch. She’s been known to survive off 49 cent ramen and go through a whole pack of La Croix in less than a week.
“Art is seldom the result of true genius; rather, it is the product of hard work and skills learned and tenaciously practiced by regular people.”
- Sally Mann
